Stop In The Red Zone

Recently updated the 'red' page at unit-1 dot com to be less of a wish/brag-list. It now features more practical reflections on my experiences as a good consumer. This also means it should have fresher content more often (the previous stuff had been there since forever).

Unfurled: Hello Spurl

I liked using Furl, but I 've found something new that I prefer... Spurl. They are very similar, but there are a few things I like better about Spurl.net:
  1. Its servers seem alot faster, and my blog page loads quicker.
  2. It has an automatic del.icio.us feature.
  3. Their site looks better.
  4. They do not use a rating system.
  5. Styling the script feed was less quirky.
So it's the same concept here on Benzine: a continuously updating list of my 'bookmarks'. Only better.

Modèle Nouveau

A new style for my blog page. Trying to stay consistent with an updated logo I did for my unit-1 site. I'm just not sure it all makes sense together yet; but then again, who gives a shit?

It's a hobby.

The Saga Continued

Back when I was but a teen, I was really into the Canadian rock band Saga. They had a mild hit on American radio with "On The Loose" from their Worlds Apart album. I got into their subsequent album Heads or Tails and their next, Behaviour, before shipping off to college, my Saga days behind me.

A few years ago I picked up a disc in a bargain bin for something like $3, Saga's A Beginner's Guide to Throwing Shapes. I thought it was a newer release at the time, and never played it. Recently I came across it again in my collection and threw it in the player. I'm not one for nostalgia but this thing took me back. It turns out that this was the release that was next in sequence when I was into them from before. But this is new to me today, and it's strange to hear the qualities I used to appreciate.

And now they have a brand new album that was released overseas earlier this year. It seems they've been making albums all along and I'm curious to see where they're at musically today. I don't think the new release will set the charts on fire, but I understand they're very popular in Germany.

In Search Of...

I changed the site name to "Benzine" last week sometime (seemed clever enough), and found something very interesting as I perused the visitor info provided me by sitemeter. Some referrals were coming from search engines, and this very page you're reading comes up #1 when benzine is seached on MSN! Not sure what good that is, being that this is just some lame personal weblog, but it's kinda cool nonetheless.

schoolboy

At work today, one of my co-workers called another of my co-workers "schoolboy", something like: what are you, a schoolboy? This was meant as a derogatory term. I have not heard this expression in many years (when I was in fact referred to as a schoolboy), and it struck me as hilarious. I'm not sure, but I think it was the 70's precursor to the 80's "nerd" or the 90's "geek", and now out of context, it does not seem defamatory in any way. Just hilarious.

And maybe the funniest part is that someone would still use this term, and think he was putting anyone down. What are you, concerned and intelligent? You one uh dem book-readin types, boy?

Scotty, beam me the hell outta here.

New Thing

Check out the "furled" box at the bottom of the sidebar. Sort of like del.icio.us, and others. I'll keep this one here as long as I'm trying it out. Now, assuming I remember to furl sites I like, this blog remains updated automatically.

Does anyone use bookmarking sites, and have any preferences?

UPDATE
: Moved "furled" up a bit in the sidebar.

Get Bent

I was screwing around in my profile, seeing what settings changed what, and apparently I am now "Bent". I changed it back in the settings but it still shows up that way. Good thing I didn't change it to what I was thinking...

By Hatchet, Axe, and Saw

It's hard to see from the pictures, but the area they are clearing is huge. This is part of an arboretum (near my house), whose selling of acreage along our main thoroughfare has been a big local controversy. The lawyers aren't even done yet, and they're clearing the trees. Apparently we *really* need another mega homecenter, discount clothing store and franchise restaurant.

At least I might personally benefit alittle when they advertise, as I had the foresight to put them on my 'list'. Greed is good.

four fried chickens and a coke

Came across this site about product placement. Despite being tired of advertising as I ranted previously, I'm getting a kick out of this site.
